Winter's Longing is a five piece rock band, whose message brings listeners a hope for something more to life than living and dying. Their focus is on the youth but adults and older generations have come to enjoy the music that the band has. "We like to get to know our fans and just be real with them, we're a goofy bunch of guys who don't put on any fronts, but rather love God, music, and people."
Richard Stobbe (bass)
The band formed in 2003, when the Mark, Alvin, Scott and Richard (each hailing from different parts of North America), met while attending Prairie Bible College (Three Hills, Alberta, Canada). Since then Winter's Longing has competed in a few high profile music competitions, and released their first production entitled "Thoughts Uncovered". The 5 song EP is a mixture of melodic guitar riffs, thought-provoking lyrics, and a unique overall sound that is sure to be a stereo frequent.
"The energy and enthusiasm that our band gives is exceptional. You can tell that we all love doing what we're doing!"
Scott Courtin (drums)
In the fall of 2003, Winter's Longing won the "Academy on Campus" artist showcase - an annual GMA event taking place in Three Hills, AB. From there the band traveled to Toronto to compete at the 2004 Vibe Gospel Music Aspiring Artist Showcase, where they were able to gain valuable information about the music industryand make several contacts.
Winter's Longing then traveled to Estes Park, Colorado to be involved with the Gospel Music Associations seminar in the Rockies and compete in the 2004 Band competition. The seminars were insightful as the band began to learn how to survive as an independent artist.
Returning to school in 2004, Winter's Longing picked up a new member
to the band. Lee Van Ruskenveld was chosen to take over Mark's position
on the guitar, giving Mark the opportunity to focus on vocals and allowing
him more freedom on stage. Lee picked up the parts fast and has been
a great addition to the band.
Since the new year of 2005, Winter's Longing has begun to find their place in the local scene with a high intensity and emotionally driven live show. Their music is sure to entertain, engage, and inspire its listeners.
